DASH TO FINISH IN BOSTON

Ethiopia’s Worknesh Degefa and Kenya’s Lawrence Cherono were the women’s and men’s winners Monday in the 123rd Boston Marathon. Cherono (2:07:59) used a last-second kick to edge two-time Boston winner Lelisa Desisa (2:08:00), making for the closest finish to the tape since 1988. Degefa ran a blistering early pace to finish in 2:23:30. Kenya’s Edna Kiplagat (2:24:14) was the women’s runner-up.
