Take steps to combat global warming

The National Oceanic and Atmospheri­c Administra­tion reported that last month was the hottest June ever recorded, now July is expected to beat that.

We must respond appropriat­ely. All attention should be focused on the causes of the heat: trapped emissions from burning coal, oil and gas. For the sake of future generation­s, these emissions must stop.

We must educate more Americans that climate change is real and that doing nothing will be more expensive than caring for our planet.

Congress should enact the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend bill, a market-driven solution that promises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It would grow the economy, drive innovation and motivate other nations to adopt similar policies. It cannot wait.

People are rightly terrified about human-caused global warming. We’re about to make ourselves extinct. Unfortunat­ely, because many people feel this is out of their control, they would rather succumb to false hope, refusing to believe science and face reality.
