Cookie-cutter decorations? Not this house

- Shelly Stallsmith

Many cars slow down as they drive past Lisa Boll’s house in York Township, Pennsylvania.

Some drivers even stop and take photos of the giant Cookie Monster that seems to be growing out of Boll’s house. It looks that way because it kind of is growing out of her house.

Boll, a former landscape designer, takes advantage of vines growing over an arbor at her front door to create a different character each year.

“This year, I wanted to do something with ‘Sesame Street’ because of the 50th anniversary,” Boll said.

So she pulled the vines away from the house, painted them blue and put them back up in the shape of Cookie Monster’s face. She gave it eyes, a mouth, and of course, some cookies.

The tradition started when her vines grew in one year and the look reminded her of Cousin It from the “Addams Family.” So she knew she had to do something with them.

“I put some eyes on it, and teeth ... it was supremely horrifying,” she said.
