America must fix its poverty problem

-

In 2020, the United States must unveil a national plan to combat poverty. It’s an issue that few leaders discuss. A federal poverty legislation package must include provisions that crack down on predatory lending (a practice that particularly hurts minority communities); provide tax cuts and incentives for families living below the poverty level; and offer a strong public health care option. These three proposals will help the poorest Americans and raise the standard of living for us all. There is no way our country can continue to prosper if we leave a large segment of the nation behind.

Congress must get to work before one more man, woman or child suffers. A solution to poverty is the best New Year’s gift Congress could provide for the American people.
