States promise to ‘wait for you’ after virus

Tourism websites are teasing potential visitors

- David Oliver

Many cities and states around the U.S. still want you to visit – just not during the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.

In lieu of much else to do right now, tourism websites are teasing the beauty of their respective locations, but encourage visitors to stay home for now.

States across the U.S. are already seeing an impact when it comes to tourism, considering attractions including Grand Canyon National Park and Disney World have shuttered.

WalletHub found that the pandemic hit such states as Hawaii, Montana and Nevada harder, based on metrics like state dependency on the travel and tourism industry, and state aggressiveness against coronavirus.

For example, Alaska’s website features a video showcasing glaciers and mountains and promises that “Alaska will wait, for you.”

Pennsylvania suggests visitors to experience the state from home.

“Pennsylvania artists, horticulturists, chefs, re-enactors, outdoorsmen, and musicians want to welcome you into their homes,” its website reads. “While we can’t do that literally, you can join us online for virtual visits.”

New Jersey, too, plans to bring the state to you.

And it’s not just states: Individual cities themselves are reminding tourists to stay at home and that they’ll be waiting. “We’ll keep San Diego warm for you,” according to its website. Las Vegas’

tourism site insists the only thing that matters is “you,” despite the city’s mayor wanting to reopen the city soon.

“Soon enough it’ll be time for paradise,” territory Puerto Rico’s tourism website says. “All in good time.”

Not all tourism groups appear to be on the same page. There’s no stay-athome encouragement on Louisiana nor Missouri‘s tourism home pages, for example (though Missouri has a COVID-19 alert at the top of the page).

If you do travel during this period, make sure you’re caught up on the latest quarantine rules and restrictions.
