Verizon offers 5G plans for small businesses

Tailored plans aim to fit new normal

- Josh Rivera

During the coronavirus pandemic, small businesses have been forced to rethink their operations. For many, that meant starting or boosting their online presence.

Consumers spent $211.5 billion during the second quarter on e-commerce, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. And about 36% of consumers now shop online weekly, an increase from 28% before the pandemic, a survey by Selligent Marketing Cloud said.

With a change in operation comes a change in expenses and the need for reliable inter

net access.

On Wednesday, Verizon introduced three plans, with the most economical one starting at $30 per line per month, with a minimum of two lines. Businesses can choose a plan that best fits their needs with unlimited talk, text and data on both 4G LTE and 5G networks.

“Our new unlimited plans will provide our business customers with the flexibility, speed and security they need as they reimagine their businesses,” said TJ Fox, president of Verizon Business Markets. “These new, tailored plans are designed to meet our customers’ evolving needs during these unprecedented times, particularly small businesses who have been hit the hardest.”

The company says the 5G

Nationwide plan is available in more than 1,800 cities on “most (Verizon) 5G devices” and its Business Unlimited plans offer additional volume discounts. As The Verge notes, the company “is actually just sharing the existing spectrum and networking infrastructure that Verizon already uses for its LTE network,” a move that afforded Verizon the ability to expand its low-band 5G offerings beyond a few cities.

Cradlepoint, similarly, developed software and hardware this year to allow businesses to take advantage of of 5G technology.

Small business owners should note that having 5G speed requires you to have the equipment – modems, wideband adapters and routers – to support it.
