Brady toss: ‘Seems really fun to do’

- Scott Gleeson

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady said he doesn’t really remember his Lombardi Trophy toss that went viral during the team’s Super Bowl boat parade last month.

The 43-year old won his seventh Super Bowl title and fifth Super Bowl MVP Award in Tampa Bay’s win over the Chiefs. He told James Corden on “The Late Late Show” on Tuesday that there was not a lot of foresight into the decision to toss the trophy to teammate Cam Brate from one boat to the other across the Hillsborough River waters.

“First of all, I was not thinking at that moment. It was not a thought,” Brady said on the show. “It was, ‘This seems really fun to do.’ Not to mention, when you get your hands on one of those trophies, there’s a lot of really sharp edges on the bottom . ...

“I found out later, had that been an incomplete pass, that would have went down like 80 feet. I’m so happy that Cam (caught it).”

During the incident, Brady’s daughter, Vivi, can be heard screaming, “Daddy, no!”

“That’s my little 8-year-old daughter,” Brady said. “Who could imagine that an 8-yearold girl would have the most sense of anybody in that whole area? I mean, she’s the voice of reason. Go figure.”

When asked about being braced by quarterback Ryan Griffin coming off the boat and whether it was caused by sea legs or tequila because it seemed Brady was shaky, Brady said it was “a little of both.”

“It was definitely a moment of celebration,” Brady said. “I’m happy I’m on land at that point. Absolutely.”
