Thursday redemption candidate

- – Mike Jones, USA TODAY

The NFL’s Week 2 kicks off Thursday with the Giants playing the host Washington Football Team. Here’s a look at one of the players in the game most desperately needing a rebound performance from Week 1.

Giants QB Daniel Jones: After two struggle-filled years, the Giants need Jones to have a breakout campaign. But Sunday certainly looked like more of the same. Jones did throw for a touchdown and run for one. But overall, New York struggled to move the ball under Jones’ direction, and his challenges with ball security continued as Jones lost yet another fumble, bringing his turnover total to 40 in 28 games. It’s a long season, the 2019 sixth overall pick needs a positive showing as bad as just about anybody in the league.

Next up: A prime-time date with NFC East rival Washington and a fierce defense led by Chase Young. This just might be the get-right matchup Jones needs. For his career, he’s 8-20, but four of those wins have come against Washington.
