Tahoe: One year and nearly 25,000 pieces of trash later, Clean Up the Lake’s effort to remove garbage from the entirety of Tahoe’s shoreline is complete. The nonprofit organization has wrapped up an epic human-powered trash removal effort encompassing the lake’s 72-mile shoreline. From scuba divers who manually plucked rubbish from the lake bed to crews on ships hauling oversized items up from the sandy bottom, it took 81 days of physical labor to complete the project. The next step is to figure out what to do with all the trash. Some of it will get recycled, and some, with the public’s input, will be turned into a massive art sculpture to be displayed at the under-construction Tahoe South Events Center.
