Oscar Quijano
Family practice doctor, Air Force doctor Age: 79
Dr. Oscar Quijano and his medical school sweetheart, Dr. Lerma Ocapan Quijano, immigrated to the U.S. from the Philippines in 1969.
He was a doctor in the U.S. Air Force for four years. The couple settled in Salem in 1977 and opened their own medical practice, Quijano Family Practice Clinic. They retired in 2010.
Quijano’s daughter, Felicity Davis, remembers him as a smart, calm and easygoing man who was loyal to his routines. He loved music, singing, golfing and watching boxing.
“He just had a real faith about him … faith in people and faith in God,” Davis said.
Quijano died of COVID-19-related pneumonia Sept. 20, 2021, after spending 30 days in Salem Hospital. He was 79. He had not been vaccinated against COVID-19.
