Nursing assistant Age: 43

At her baby shower in April 2021, Shanetta Wilson, 43, was elated about the upcoming birth of her third child, Charles, according to her niece, Charlene Wilson.

But just days later, Shanetta came down with a cough that led to a hospital stay, eventually putting the mother of two in a coma and leading to the birth of her son when she was only six months pregnant. Charles lived for less than a week before he died at the hospital.

Shanetta fought the virus for about a month before she died on June 1.

A dedicated nursing assistant, she left her job during the pandemic because of her underlying conditions.

Shanetta is survived by her husband, Charles Sr.; her son, Alphonso, 15; and her daughter, Tamia, 4.

She enjoyed seafood, live go-go music shows and family time, Charlene told USA TODAY.
