Biden and China’s Xi to have first face-to-face meeting while in Bali for G-20 summit

-

President Joe Biden will sit down Monday with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Bali amid rising tensions over trade, Taiwan and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. While Biden and Xi have spoken five times since Biden took office, the meeting on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit will be their first in-person conversation. The meeting comes after Xi last month cemented his status as one of the world’s most powerful leaders when members of the ruling Communist Party gave him a third term as general secretary. Biden heads into the meeting after getting a lift in the midterm elections, where Democrats performed better than expected.
