Four university students found dead
Police probe site near University of Idaho
Police are investigating the possible homicide of four University of Idaho students who were found dead Sunday near campus.
Just before noon Sunday, police officers responded to a call of an unconscious person less than a mile from campus and discovered four bodies, according to a release from the city of Moscow, a close-knit college town located in the hills of north-central Idaho.
Students were advised to shelter in place for about an hour Sunday until police determined there was no active threat, university officials said on Twitter.
Moscow Police haven’t publicly identified the victims or said how they died. More information wasn’t immediately available, and it was unclear if they had a suspect.
University President Scott Green confirmed in a statement that the four people found dead were students living off-campus and said the families have been informed of their deaths.
Classes at the university were canceled Monday. Green said counselors would be available for students and encouraged staff to use an employee assistance program.
“An event of this magnitude can understandably have significant impacts on those left behind,” Green said. “As Vandals, we must come together and lift each other up.”
The news came as police in Virginia sought for the gunman who killed three people and injured two in a shooting near a parking garage on the University of Virginia campus late Sunday. An arrest has been made in that shooting.
