COP27 agrees to fund for hard-hit nations

-

The annual U.N. Climate Change Conference in Egypt ended with a groundbreaking but contentious decision: A fund would be created to help poor nations hit hard by climate disasters. After pushback from wealthy nations that fear facing unlimited liability, the deal says countries cannot be held legally liable for previous emissions. Meanwhile, delegates from the more than 190 attending countries sidestepped two other contentious issues by not moving forward with language on the need to phase out all fossil fuels and to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit).
