There are no bowl bids at stake, and the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy is already stowed away at the Air Force Academy for the year. No matter. It’s Army-Navy, and it’s always worth watching. The Midshipmen’s season got off to a miserable start with a loss to FCS power Delaware. But they improved to post a break-even record in the American Athletic Conference that included wins against bowl-bound East Carolina and league finalist Central Florida. The best win for the Black Knights came against fellow independent Connecticut, though they came within a single score of eventual conference champs Texas-San Antonio and Troy. The Navy option attack is in the hands of QB Xavier Arline, who engineered the upset of UCF in his most recent outing without completing a pass. FB Daba Fofana does much of the heavy lifting inside, with WRs Maquel Haywood and Vincent Terrell providing constant breakaway threats at the edges. The keeper is often the preferred choice for Army QB Tyhier Tyler, who has 12 rushing TDs and averages over 5 yards per attempt. But he also has a deep rotation of backs to take handoffs, led by Tyson Riley and Jakobi Buchanan. Names to know on the defensive side of the ball include Midshipmen LB-DB John Marshall and Black Knights LB Leo Lowin. Prediction: Other names to know are Navy’s Daniel Davies and Army’s Quinn Maretzki. Those are the kickers, and they’ll more than likely have a hand – or a foot – in determining the outcome, as the contests in this series are often down to the wire. We’ll go with the Mids to make it two in a row against the fellas from West Point. Navy, 16-13
