Reports: Cowboys RB suffered broken leg

- Steve Gardner

The Dallas Cowboys lost a major cog in their offense when running back Tony Pollard left Sunday’s NFC divisional playoff game in the first half with an injury to his left leg.

Pollard was taken to the locker room with his leg in an air cast and did not return in the 19-12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

According to multiple reports, Pollard suffered a broken left fibula, as well as a high ankle sprain, when he was tackled following an 8-yard gain late in the second quarter.

“That hurt,” Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said, per ESPN. “Just a guy that brings so much to our offense, brings so much to our team.”

Pollard is expected to need surgery, with a recovery time of approximately three months, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Pollard, 25, will be an unrestricted free agent after this season. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards, scored 12 TDs and earned his first Pro Bowl nod.
