MSUM Wrestling Competes at Midwest Classic 2-Day Tourney

Three members of the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team advanced to Day 2 of the Midwest Classic which is being held in Indianapolis, Ind. Junior Jordan Magnuson (285), sophomore Mason Schulz (141) and sophomore Evan Foster (174) all kept their tournaments alive after Saturday's opening day of competition.
Magnuson finished the day 3-1 at 285. He opened with a pin of Adams State's Sylvester Montgomery before losing to Maryville's Logan Radik by a 3-2 score. He rebounded with a 5- 4 win over Findlay's Caleb Carpenter and then followed with a 7- 4 win over Tiffin's David Henson. Magnuson will face Ramon Correa of Coker College in the consolation bracket on Sunday.
Schulz opened at 141 with a 13- 4 win over Colorado School of Mines Wesley Rayburn and then pinned Mercyhurst's Alexis Soriano in 1:09. In the quarterfinals he lost to UNC Pembroke's Jonathan Miller by a 14- 4 major decision.
Foster went 3-1 at 174 to reach Sunday's competition. He beat Central Oklahoma's Gage McBride 7-5 before losing to Colorado School of Mines' Robert Gambrell 9- 0. Foster came back with decision wins over Lindenwood's Elijah Mahan (11-9) and Coker's Jhavon Innocent (6- 4). MSUM Wrestlers/ Midwest Classic

Minnesota State University Moorhead sophomore Mason Schulz finished seventh at the Midwest Classic which concluded on Sunday in Indianapolis, Ind.
Schulz finished seventh at 141 and went 4-2 on the weekend. During Sunday’s action he pinned Seton Hill’s Joel Cawoski in 4:37 before losing to WisconsinParkside’s Pernevlon
Sheppard 12-1. In the seventh-place match Schulz beat Central Oklahoma’s Nate Keim by medical forfeit. Schulz is now 15-8 on the season.
Sophomore Evan Foster lost his only match on Sunday, dropping a 10- 4 decision to Western Colorado’s James Laconte at 174. He is now 13-8 on the year.
Junior Jordan Magnuson also lost his only match on Sunday at 285, losing to Coker;s Ramon Correa by a 6-1 decision.
MSUM is off until Jan. 4 when it competes at Wisconsin-Parkside for a dual match.
