Sheyenne Valley Friends of Animals Host Meeting to Discuss 2nd Dog Park, Nov. 17

- By Ellie Boese treditor@times-online.com

Sheyenne Valley Friends of Animals is holding its first meeting for what they have named the “Dog Park Committee” at the Eagles Club on Tuesday, November 17th. This group of folks is looking to move forward on building a second dog park in Valley City, expanding the number of places for furry friends to safely run and play. The meeting has one thing on the agenda: determining how best to move forward as a group to build a second dog park.

SVFA is an organization dedicated to the health and well being of all animals and serve as advocates for stray or abandoned animals in need of care. They facilitate pet adoptions,

From 1 help lost pets find their owners, assist owners with spay/neuter costs and raise money for veterinary care of needy animals, among many other things. Presently, SVFA’s priority is taking care of animals who are in the foster care system.

As they explore how to move toward their goal of a second dog park, they see many benefits in the establishment of another dog park in Valley City. It will help provide even more space dedicated to pets’ health (via some good fun), and while the ever-changing river conditions at Chautauqua’s Dog Park sometimes leave pet owners with no access to that dog park, having two would be a plus.

The organization received an initial grant through the Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation that would help cover the basic start-up costs for the new dog park but will require additional funds for fencing and for the possible addition of an agility course in the future.

SVFA is looking for people who want to be part of the Dog Park Committee as well as anyone who has ideas that could help, so they welcome everyone who’s interested in having a discussion about the project to their meeting on Tuesday. If parties are interested in donating monetary funds or even a piece of land or supplies for the new dog park, SVFA would be incredibly appreciative of the help.

If interested, stop in for the meeting at the Valley City Eagles Club on Tuesday, November 17 at 5:30 p.m. Masks will be required and social distancing will be observed to keep everyone safe.
