VCSU Men Cruise to Victory Over Minnesota-Morris

(VCSU) Five Vikings scored in double figures Wednesday night as the VCSU men's basketball team scored early and often, cruising to a 12361 victory over the University of MinnesotaM­orris.

The Vikings built a 61-18 halftime lead and coasted in the second half en route to the 62-point victory. The 123 points is the secondmost in school history, trailing only a 128-point performanc­e in 2015 against Oglala Lakota College.

"Our guys did most of the little things well tonight, which is what we've been working on," said VCSU head coach

Ryan Montgomery. "I feel like it was a good warmup for our games this weekend."

Valley City State improves its record to 1-2 overall this season. The Vikings are back on the road this weekend, playing Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty on Saturday and Sunday during the Sanford Classic at the Sioux Falls (S.D.) Pentagon. Wednesday night's game was an exhibition contest for MinnesotaM­orris.

Eddie Oyet led the Vikings with 26 points – 17 of which came in the second half. Jalen Addison poured in 19 points, including a teamhigh 13 in the first half. Tate Hebrink scored 13, Connor Entzi had 11 and Duoth Gach scored 10 as part of VCSU's balanced attack.

Thirteen different Vikings played in the game and 12 of them scored. Cayden Rickard was the only player who did not score, but he dished out five of VCSU's 28 assists. Joshua Kelly led the team with six assists and Hebrink added four.

Valley City State made 15 3-pointers in the victory. Oyet and Addison both made three 3's, and nine different Vikings made at least one 3-pointer.

VCSU shot 63 percent overall (47-75), 58 percent from 3-point range (15-26) and 88 percent at the free throw line (1416). Morris shot 38 percent overall (23-60), 29 percent on 3's (9-31) and 60 percent (6-10) on free throws.

The Vikings forced 21 turnovers and converted those extra possession­s into 42 points off turnovers. VCSU also pulled down 10 offensive rebounds – including two each by Hunter Sand, Oyet and Will Tinjum – that led to 14 secondchan­ce points.

Up next: Valley City State faces Dakota Wesleyan University on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D.
