- By Ellie Boese treditor@times-online.com

Valley City Hi-Liner Volleyball closed out their regular season on the road, facing the West Fargo Packers. The last time these two teams met up was at the end of September, when the HILiners hosted the Packers. West Fargo swept the home team to take a 3-0 match win. They did it again this week, winning the match in three sets.

In set one, West Fargo grabbed the lead quickly and didn’t look back. With strong plays from Packers Mary Schnell,

Nadia Chwialkowski and Chloe Pfau, West Fargo downed the HiLiners 25-16.

Valley city rallied when they started set two. The Hi-Liners quickly jumped to a 5-1 lead over the Packers, but the Packers soon tied things up at 5. Valley City fired ahead again, getting to a 9-6 lead before West Fargo got back into the rhythm they had in their first set. Though the Hi-Liners stayed with their opponent throughout the set, they couldn’t stay close enough and the Packers took the second set 2522. West Fargo came out swinging in the third and final set, but Valley City wasn’t intimidated. After the Packers got to a 4-0 lead, the Hi-Liners fought back to get within one point. West Fargo kept running away with their offense and blocking abilities, getting points while robbing Valley City opportunities. When West Fargo’s Chwialkowski, who dominated at the net all night, smacked the ball to put the Packers ahead 19-11, she scored her 1,000th career kill. The Packers went on to win the set 25-13.

The loss puts Valley City at 11-12 on the season.

The Hi-Liners will play Devils Lake in the Eastern Dakota Conference play-in game Friday, November 5th at the HAC.
