Maxine Peterson
Maxine Jeanette (Ussatis) Peterson 87, died peacefully in Valley City, ND on May 4, 2022.
Visitation will be Monday, May 9 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Oliver - Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. The funeral service will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, May 10 at Faith Lutheran Church, Valley City with visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Memory Gardens, Valley City.
Maxine was born on August 17, 1934 on a farmstead by Nome, ND to August and Helen (Puhr Thilmony) Ussatis. Maxine attended school in Nome where she played basketball and graduated Valedictorian of her class of 1952. On December 31, 1952 Maxine married Orvis Peterson at Zion Lutheran Church in Nome. They were married for 64 years. Together they raised six children: Randy Peterson, Nome, JoNell (Duane) Schaefer, Valley City, Joel (Renee) Peterson, Ogema, MN, Michael (Mary) Peterson, Nome, Daniel Peterson and Jill (Kermit) Pederson, Valley City. Maxine was a stay at home mom, housewife and the most amazing cook and baker. She was famous for her cake decorating skills, baking and decorating hundreds of them for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and many others.
Maxine loved having her large family dinners on Sundays and if there was any unexpected guest that would stop by any other time, she always had something ready to feed them, everyone was always welcome. Her Lutheran Faith was a large part of her life and she participated in services and bible study groups her whole life.
Maxine is survived by her children; four grandchildren, Tiffany (Clint) Jewett, Valley City, Johnathan Peterson, Nome, Kristen (Ryan) Torgerson, West Fargo and Olivia Pederson, Fargo; three great grandkids, Hailey Schaefer, Addi and James Jewett. Maxine is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Alicia (Andy) Kemper (Mason and Easton), Matt (Kayla) Haverkamp (Winston and Jack), Matt Pederson (Nathan Pederson and Paige Reinke), Chris (Melanie) Pederson (Mason and Paris); her brothers, Ken (Loretta) Ussatis, Nome, Jerome (Jean) Ussatis, Moorhead, MN, Jim (Betty) Ussatis, Fargo and brother in law Karl Schlecht.
Maxine is preceded in death by her husband Orvis, son Daniel Peterson, grandson Matthew Schaefer, her parents, a sister Joyce Schlecht along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A big thank you to the SMP-Health/St. Raphael staff for all of the wonderful care that you gave our mom. She absolutely loved living there and thought of you all as part of her family.
