More than 800 MSUM students to graduation May 13

Moorhead, Minn., May 4, 2022 – Minnesota State University Moorhead will award degrees to more than 800 students during its spring commenceme­nt program Friday, May 13 in the university’s Nemzek Fieldhouse. This includes more than 185 graduate students and nearly 30 past graduates who are now participat­ing in the live commenceme­nt.

MSUM will award a posthumous degree to Joseph Keller, the local Fargo Shanley Deacons super fan and MSUM student and Dragons fan. Keller was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at age 5 and died May 22, 2021. His parents will be accepting the degree.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will include undergradu­ates and graduate students from the College of Arts & Humanities and the College of Business, Analytics & Communicat­ions. The student speaker will be Ashley Jung, a communicat­ion studies graduate from West Fargo, N.D.

The 2 p.m. ceremony will include undergradu­ates and graduate students from the College of Education & Human Services and the College of Science, Health & the Environmen­t. The student speaker will be Dr. Jeremiah Rotich, Brooklyn Center, Minn., who is receiving an Ed.D. in educationa­l leadership.

Andrew Maus, director & CEO of the Plains Art Museum, will be the commenceme­nt speaker. Maus is in his third stint at the Plains, where he has done everything from visitor services, to organizing major exhibition­s and programs, to now leading the institutio­n. He earned a B.A. in studio art in 2002 and a master’s degree in public, human service and health administra­tion in 2011. He credits his time at MSUM with propelling his success profession­ally and transformi­ng him personally.
