Rodney Kapaun

Rodney A. Kapaun, 89, Fingal ND passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at his farm in rural Fingal.

Rodney Arlyn Kapaun was born on August 5, 1933 at the family farm in rural Fingal, ND to Adolph (AJ) and Agnes (Utke) Kapaun. Rodney attended Clifton Township grade school a nd Fingal Public School where he graduated in 1951.

On September 21, 1957 he married Arla McKay at the Alice Moravian Church in Alice, ND. He served on the Clifton Township Board for 50 years, was a member of the Fingal Wildlife Club, the Eagles Club of Valley City, Pheasants Forever, and was on the Alice Moravian Church Board. He taught Hunter Safety for many years and was an avid hunter. He had a love of horses and even bought a wild horse from the North Dakota Badlands. He farmed his whole life on the family farm.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 65 years; Arla, three children; Tammy (Dennis) Ertelt, Daryn (Ruth) Kapaun and Todd (Suzie) Kapaun, a niece that he helped raised, Michelle Fender-Nagle (Lyle); 7 grandchild­ren and 10 great grandchild­ren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister and a grandson.

The visitation for Rodney will be 5-7 pm Wednesday, November 2 at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, with a prayer service at 7 pm. There will be a Celebratio­n of Life gathering from 2-6 pm Thursday, November 3, at the Valley City Eagle Club. Burial will be in the Alice Community Cemetery, Alice, ND.
