Glenna Henderson
Glenna Marie Henderson was born September 20, 1928, in Chicago to Amanda (Qualley) and Hans Houkom. She grew up in the Horace, ND, area and then moved to Fargo to attend Fargo High School. She loved high school and was the class poet for her class of 1946. She married David Henderson in December of 1947 and moved to rural Tower City to farm. They had five sons and one daughter.
Glenna was very involved in her community; Minnie
Lake Lutheran church, Homemaker’s
Club, and the Oriska school. She loved all kinds of people and enjoyed visiting over lunch or a piece of pie. She was a helpful neighbor and friend and always offered a listening ear. She and David were involved in Gideons
International, which included traveling locally and across the US for meetings and speaking opportunities.
Glenna’s passion was the written word. She read extensively and wrote short stories and a myriad of poetry for many different occasions. In the 70’s, she wrote an autobiography of her Christian experience which was published. She was a faithful letter writer who wrote thousands of letters to family and friends through the years. Glenna returned to college in her late 50s, earning a BA in creative writing from Moorhead State University. She loved Scrabble and was hard to beat. In her later years she especially enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and hearing their perspectives on life. They loved her wholehearted acceptance of them and her sense of humor.
