Ladies and gentlemen, Valley City High School welcomes you to the roaring twenties as the Great Gatsby, a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the 1920’s, comes to life in the Valley City Theatre November 15, 17, 18, 19 with a 7:30 p.m. show each evening and a November 20 matinee at 2:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. with tickets available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the door.

The Great Gatsby, a story set in a time of jazz, prohibition, mystery, drama and dancing, follows our main characters Nick Carraway, Daisy and Tom Buchanan and of course the famous Jay Gatsby.

Gatsby, a war veteran living in New York is a “new money” millionaire who throws the most glamorous parties on all of Long Island with a hidden secret desire to be reunited with his young love Daisy Buchanan, who is married to another.

VCHS students, under the direction of Abigail Brown and

Elizabeth Gazely, got together to choreograph and memorize scenes of this show to share with family, friends and fellow Gatsby fans. This year’s play proves to be a show stopper, complete with all of the memorable parties, drama, music, and of course the fashion. The VCHS students say their version of the play will transport you back in time and leave you on the edge of your seat in anticipation and wonder.

In fact, this reporter got the inside scoop on the characters when visiting with lead character Tucker Johnson, who plays Jay Gatsby. Tucker says this show is, “a blast to the past that really lets you feel the time change with all of the props and scenery. You can really feel the aesthetic of the roaring twenties.”

Amelia Meester, aka Daisy Buchanan, says, “I’m looking

forward to having the audience in front of us and getting to see their reactions. This play is a new and exciting change that encapsulates all the actors personalities and it is an experience you will never forget. We hope to see you all there!”

Valley City get ready to join your students, family and friends on a journey back to the 1920’s with The Great Gatsby VCHS play and be sure to come early to get your tickets November 15, 17, 18, 19 and 20.
