North Dakota State High School Bowling Tournament recap
ND State High School Bowling Teams, 9 Varsity and 12 Junior Varsity teams competed this past weekend for the State Champion titles. Each team rolled 6 games (total pins) for a position in the step ladder, double elimination competition. The VC Varsity team of Ashton Hollingsworth, Faith King, Lucas Compson-Lorenz, Madison Nelson, Jon Aarseth and Maddy Anderson finished 7th in qualifying. Taking on the number 2 seed Fargo/Moorhead in the first match. Teams bowled best 2 of 3 in each match. F/M took game 1, 212/140. VC turned the momentum around finishing strong, winning 162/155. With the match brought to a tie breaker, VC rolled nearly an errorless game, finished strong but drew a hard loss at 202/203. Match 2 paired against Minot-Maroon, VC controlled game 1, winning 191/176, game 2 taking the lead early, held it through the ninth, only to drop by 5, 152/157. Placed in Tie breaker match, VC struggled with a couple of splits and a washout but continued to fight to the final frame only to come up short 15, and their second loss and tournament elimination. Compson-Lorenz led the Varsity team with a 91% fill percentage in match play. Hollingsworth went 18/18 for 100% in the team qualifying.
Valley City Varsity Anchor Bowler Ashton Hollingsworth earned the honors of All Conference 2nd Team. Hollingsworth attends Oakes High School and has been a member of the Sky Lanes sponsored co-op team of VC/Oakes/BCN High Schools for 2 seasons.
Bismarck/Mandan Black defeated West Fargo 2/1 for the Championship.
Valley City JV 1 members Mariah Frieze, Kyle Strang, Nick Metcalf,
Anna McMenamin, Jordyn Aarseth, and Braxton Weller placed 8th in the qualifying. Match play paired them against the number 1 seed F/M-Orange. Tied 1/1 after 2 a tie breaker game was bowled with F/M taking the win. Their second match, placed against the #4 seed Minot, VC JV 1 took them to a 3 game match, finishing 1/2 for their second and final match. Nick Metcalf led the team in qualifying at 75%. Metcalf also led the team in match play at 61% in fill percentage.
Valley City JV 2 members Ian King, Veronica Remick, Gabby Wadeson, Joel Strang, and Emma Nelson finished 10th in the 6 game qualifying, 69 pins short. Emma Nelson led the team with 60% in the qualifying.
F/M JV – Orange defeated B/M Red 2/1 for the Championship

Boys – Division 1 (high percentage average bowlers) drew 26 competitors, each bowled 4 games total pins (scratch). 8 bowlers advanced to the second round. Match 1 Frieze and Orn tied 157, Frieze won in a 2 frame roll off. Match 2 Cool over Frieze 140/130, Match 3 Cool over Nelson 165/148 for the Division 2 Girls Championship.
