Vikings earn nine Top 3 finishes at Cobber Indoor Open

MOORHEAD, MINN. – Valley City State University track and field athletes won two event titles and had nine Top 3 finishes at the Cobber Indoor Open.

Taylor Sargent won the women's 60 meter hurdles and Misa Miyashiro won the women's 600 meters to highlight VCSU performances on Saturday.

Sargent clocked a time of 9.31 seconds as she bested a field of 12 runners in the 60 meter hurdles. She effectively ran away with the race, beating second place by a healthy .26 seconds. In the women's 600 meters, Miyashiro topped a field of four runners with her time of 1:57.50. She narrowly edged teammates Emily Hatlewick (1:58.62) and Morgan Hearer (1:58.79) who took second and third.

Jade Azure set a new personal record in the women's weight throw, recording a top throw of 13.47 meters (44 feet, 2.5 inches) on Saturday to place second in the event. That bested her previous PR by 10 inches. In the women's shot put Sadie Hansen placed third with a toss of 11.69 meters (38-4.25).

Jasmine Barnes placed third in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:52.10, and VCSU's 4x400 women's relay team also placed second in 4:50.71. The relay team was composed of Miyashiro, Hearer, Paige Goodsell and Hatlewick.

On the men's side, Dominic Santiago ran a strong mile run, finishing third with his time of 4:46.52. That was a new collegiate PR for Santiago by 8 seconds and helped him to a thirdplace finish out of 19 runners.
