Herbert Myron Nelson
Herbert Myron Nelson, 87, a loving husband and wonderful father, departed this life on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at CHI Mercy Hospital, Valley City, North Dakota.
Myron was born on August 18, 1935 to Herbert and Martha (Stevens) Nelson in Nome, North Dakota. He grew up on the family farm near Fingal, North Dakota. Myron graduated high school in Valley City. He went on to Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and this is where he met the love of his life, Mary Hartfiel. They were married on December 21, 1957 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Myron was a medic in the National Guard in Fargo and helped at the time of the June 20, 1957 tornado. After graduation from Concordia College, Myron taught secondary education in Alkabo, Wheelock, and Haynes, North Dakota. In 1963 he moved to Valley City and would farm near Fingal until his retirement.
Myron enjoyed bowling, going to gun and cartridge shows, shooting practice at the farm on weekends, and watching old westerns on TV, especially Gunsmoke.
He was a great father to his two sons, Jeffrey and Robert. He taught them a lot of things and kept them on the straight and narrow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, and brotherin-law Norman Evers.
Myron is survived by his sons Jeffrey (Gail) and Robert, both Valley City; his beloved sister Dorothy Evers, St Paul; two nieces and one nephew all of Minnesota.
Visitation will be 2-4 pm Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. The funeral will be held 10:30 am on May 12, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Burial will be in Memory Gardens following the service.
