Beatrice Hass
Beatrice E. Hass, Sanborn, ND, passed away on March 6, 2023 at SMP Health-Ava Maria at the age of 104.
Beatrice E. Coleman was born December 7, 1918 near Rogers, ND, the daughter of Orrin and Matilda (Johnson) Coleman. She grew up on a farm north of Sanborn and attended school in Rogers where she was part of the women’s basketball team.
She married Joseph Hass on January 17, 1940. They made their home in Florida for a year before moving back to the Sanborn. In 1942 they purchased a farmstead where they lived and farmed. Joseph died August 18, 1996 and she continued to live on the farm until she was shy of the age of 101. She entered SMP Health-Ava Maria, Jamestown in November of 2019.
Beatrice was an avid reader, liked to ice skate and bake. She loved to be outside in the garden where she grew produce for canning and especially loved growing potatoes as she couldn’t wait to see how many potatoes were in a hill. Beatrice, like many of her family members was very musical. She could play piano and organ by ear.
Beatrice is survived by her granddaughter Brenda (Robert) Wahl, Sanborn; great-grandson Brandon (Andrea) Straus; great-greatgrandchildren Merrick and Daylan; a nephew Dennis (Sharon) Coleman; and a niece Barbara Hoff.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph; a daughter Delphine (Gerald) Bouck; a grandson Brian Straus; 2 sisters and 8 brothers.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 10, 2023 from 4-6 pm at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, ND. Interment will be held later in the spring at Fairview Cemetery, Sanborn.
