Chamber and NDWS Ag Appreciation Social shines
The Valley City Chamber and North Dakota Winter Show teamed up for their annual Ag Appreciation Social March 8th in the South Exhibit Building of the Winter Show.
The event, filled with honors, awards, music and delicious hors d’oeuvres by Cleaver’s Cookin’ & Catering, set off with the induction of Nancy Jo Bateman and Jerry Doan into the North Dakota Agricultural Hall of Fame.
Nancy Jo Bateman, Executive Director of the North Dakota Beef Commission, became a familiar face advocating for the beef industry her entire career. Considered the longest-serving beef council executive in the nation, Bateman served as an advisor to the Federation of State Beef Councils and was selected to be on a national task force that chose the agency that formulated the very successful “Beef, It’s What’s For Dinner” national advertising campaign.
Jerry Doan has been described as being passionate about agriculture, a born leader who leads by example.
Doan grew up on the Black Leg Ranch near Bismarck, a ranch that has become known nationally as a showpiece for holistic management and land restoration..
Doan is a strong advocate and spokesman of the system in North Dakota, nationally and internationally. Always committed to making farm policy better.
A complete story of Bateman and Droan can be found in the Times-Record North Dakota Winter Show Special Edition.
Congratulations to Maple Valley students Jada Von Bank, Iris Richman and Kiana Lerud, all honored, and given awards, for their essay submissions.
Rutledge Kane Showmanship Award recipient Joel Lemer shared a few moments with audience of his journey and involvement in the ag industry after receiving his award.
The North Dakota Agricultural Hall of Fame display was destroyed in an accident in 2018.
Today the new display stands proudly greeting visitors at the front door of the Winter Show main arena entrance.
The North Dakota Agricultural Hall of Fame was established by the 1997 North Dakota legislature to provide a way to honor men and women who have made significant contributions to the state’s leading industry, agriculture, on an industrywide scope.
The display, designed from original pieces and accented by a new large continuous screen highlighting recipients of this prestigious honor, is a sight to see.
Be sure to stop and enjoy on your visit to the North Dakota Winter Show, now through Mar. 12. Visit www. northdakotawintershow for ticket, hours and event information.
