Country Focus: Winter of 2023 will eventually come to an end

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I’m not Irish so it’s just another Friday with a lot of green everywhere. It’s also my best friend’s birthday so as you’re reading this, I will be enjoying the sites of Denver. A cheap flight makes the decision easy on where to go. I haven’t been there in ten years. There may be no white sand beaches and an ocean, however, the mountain views will be a nice change of scenery.

For many schools, this week was Spring Break. As a kid, we’d get a few days off in March during the Winter Show. Even during college, some friends went to Cancun for Spring Break. I’d go to the Winter Show. Fun can be had at both places even though they are vastly different. One smells like suntan lotion and the other does not.

I do miss going somewhere warm during the winter once I got a taste of it. The trip breaks up the long winter. Growing up, we traveled to Mesa, Arizona to visit Grandma and Grandpa Kunze over Christmas break. Starting when I was 4 years old, we went about every 4 years and made stops in California at Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm. Lots of great memories.

Tom and I have had the opportunity to travel during the winter. We visited Puerto Rico twice. A Caribbean locale on U.S. soil. No passport needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would like to go back with Aubrey. Tom had a conference in Panama one February many years ago. The commodity group hosting the conference took the group for a dinner cruise on Valentine’s Day. Yep, no way Tom can top that one. Like ever…

The winter of 2023 will eventually come to an end. Who wants to take bets when the snow piles will finally melt away?
