For the second time this season, the Valley City Thunder split their two games with Jamestown. Thunder White, behind the Malcolm brothers, downed Jamestown Grey 24-8, while Hudson Serfoss led Jamestown Blue to a 18-8 win over Thunder Royal in the second game. Both games were played at Hanna Field.

In game one, after Jamestown went three and out, the Thunder took over at their own 47 yard line with 7:00 to go in the first quarter. On the Thunder first play, Jamestown’s Karter Dickerman intercepted a Kaysen Ziemba pass and returned it 15 yards to the Thunder 45. Jamestown could not move the ball against the Thunder defense and gave it back to Valley City on downs at the Jamestown 45.

On the Thunder’s drive, the first quarter ended with Thunder having a second down at the Jamestown 21 yard line.

But like the first quarter, neither team could do much of anything against the other teams defense.

Then late in the second quarter, on first down at the 18, Orion Malcolm took the handoff, went right, found

nothing, came back against the grain to the left, and found green grass for an 18 yard touchdown run with 28 seconds to go in the first half. The two-point conversion failed and it was

6-0 Thunder.

On Jamestown’s ensuing drive, on the first play, Dominic Malcolm intercepted a Conner Anderson pass and returned it 37 yards for the pick-six.

After the missed two-point conversion, Thunder White led 12-0 with 17 seconds to go in the first half. The score would stay that way until late in the third quarter.

O n Valley City’s opening drive, Jamestown’s Beckett Martin intercepted a Ziemba pass and returned it 10 yards to the Thunder White’s 28 yard line. On the fifth play of the drive, after a facemasking penalty against the Thunder set up Jamestown at the Thunder eleven, Jack Kastet ran it in for the Jamestown touchdown. The two-point conversion was run in by Becker Gegelman to make it 12-8 Thunder White with 2:33 to go in the third quarter.

Jamestown’s Thayer Bratton intercepted a Ziemba pass on the Thunder’s next possession. But on the first play for Jamestown, the Thunder’s Orion Malcolm picked off a Conner Anderson pass and returned it to the house, 75 yards for the touchdown. The two point conversion failed to

make it 18-8 Thunder White with 49 seconds to go in the third quarter.

Malcolm would cap the scoring with a 45 yard touchdown run with 5:45 to go in the fourth quarter to make the final 24-8 Thunder White.

In the second game, Jamestown Blue would get on the board first when quarterback Hudson Serfoss ran it in from 38 yards out. After eluding a defender at the 40 yard line, he out ran the defense for the touchdown. The two-point conversion pass was incomplete making it 6-0 Jamestown with 3:19 to go in the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, the Thunder had a great scoring opportunity when Katherine Russel knocked the ball out of Serfoss’s hands and Elliot Aberle picked up the fumble and returned it to the Jamestown ten yard line. A penalty on the Thunder on the run, gave them the ball at the Jamestown 26. On the next

play, the Thunder fumbled when Jacob Bollingberg was stripped from behind and Liam Shaw recovered the fumble for Jamestown. The score remained 6-0 Jamestown at halftime.

On Jamestown’s first drive of the second half, Serfoss found Shaw on the far sideline, Shaw made the catch and raced down the sideline for the touchdown that covered 53 yards. The two-point conversion was no good making it 12-0 Jamestown with 7:42 to go in the third quarter.

The Thunder would come back in their next drive. A 13 yard completion from Bollingberg to Kallen Hansen gave the Thunder a first down at the Jamestown 48. Three plays after a penalty by Jamestown for having too many players on the field, Bollingberg would out run the Jamestown defense for a 42 yard touchdown. Kallen Hansen took in the two-point conversion to make it 12-8 Jamestown with 4:02

to go in the third quarter.

The Thunder’s Avery Gerlach would intercept a Serfoss pass as he wrestled the ball away from Jamestown’s Jacob Horgan at the Jamestown 36. But the Thunder could not do anything with the short field and the game stayed 12-8 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, on the second play of the quarter, Jamestown’s Karston Wharton took the ball out of the hands of the Thunder’s Bollingberg at the five yard line and headed up field. Nixon Langemo was able to catch Wharton from behind at the 22 yard line, a 73 yard fumble return for Wharton. After a 23 yard completion from Serfoss to Conner Anderson gave Blue a first and goal from the six. Jamestown added to its lead when Serfoss carried it in from six yards out with 3:22 to go to make it 18-8 and that was the final score.
