Thoughts:

It was a beautiful fall day for tennis with overcast skies, comfortable temps, and little wind. This was the first school tournament ever for Ian, Blayze, and Joey winning a total of 16 games between them. Nice work fellas.

Matthew is continuing to develop his groundstrokes and then putting points away at the net which led to a first round victory. Jack and Adrian have improved this season and it showed with a 8-4 opening match win.

Jared and Connor both played singles in the JV tourney after playing doubles together in the West Fargo invite. These two are both looking to make even bigger strides in their games before next season as they want to always be up with the varsity in 2024.

Cole and Jon had a rough start in the opening round. Then, they moved better, made better decisions on the court, an upped their consistency in their next rounds leading to two wins and a spot in the consolation championship. We got down 1-5, but had a great come back to 5-6 by playing loose. At that point, we let the score enter our minds which is never a good thing in tennis and then dropped the final two games and the match. We will use as a great learning experience for the future so we continue to play loose no matter the point in a match. Great tournament Hi-Liners! Coach Nielson -

Thoughts:

It was so much fun watching and coaching our team today. All the way up and down the line-up, we just played tennis.

At one doubles, miles was consistent with hard shots cross court while Quin poached at the net. Quin played at the highest level he ever has leading to us grabbing two games in the second set against the best doubles team in the state.

At two doubles, Kellen’s defense and consistency is increasing while Colin improved dramatically on his attack volleys. Three doubles, Noah and Cole played very well together. They had many rallies with hard baseline placed shots and then good net play. We even had a set point at 5-4 deuce in the second set. Cole said he had so much fun playing that match, even in the loss.

Matthew played his first varsity singles of the year. He served well with placement. He also came to the net to finish points off.

With the loss, we are the #10 seed and will be away at the #7 seed on Monday for the play-in match. There is a three way tie for the 7th seed with Fargo South claiming the tiebreaker. The play-in match will be a 3 singles, 2 doubles line-up starting at 4:30pm at Fargo South. Winner goes onto the EDC team tournament on Thursday in Fargo. The loser’s team season is done. Either way, the EDC individual tournament will be on Friday and Saturday in Fargo.

I LOVE being a Hi-Liner! Coach Nielson
