McDonald honored by NDAPSSA as co-Sportswriter of the Year
North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NDAPSSA) joins the Valley City Times-Record in proudly announcing that Paul McDonald has been awarded the coSportswriter of the Year honor for 2023.
Paul McDonald sat down with TR publisher, Tina Olson, to share more about the award and his honor.
Every December, at the end of the year, NDAPSSA sends out a ballot listing nominations for the best sportswriters and sportscasters in North Dakota. The contest is conducted as a election based to the opinions of peers within the industry.
Members are asked to vote for their top three nominees from the provided list of candidates.
A top nominee listed is compiled with three finalists determined. Finalist voting is then sent back out to NDAPSSA members to choose their favorite, McDonald explains.
Congratulations to the NDAPSSA 2023 co-sportswriter of the year, Paul McDonald of the Valley City TimesRecord and his co-recipient, Scott Throlson of the Bismarck Tribune.
“This is such an honor to me, not only to be selected by my peers, but to be chosen coSportswriter of the Year when I have only been in the newspaper industry for a little over a year, is amazing and very inspiring.” He continues, “There might be some previous name recognition and association as they (NDAPSSA members) all know me from my 35 years in radio and now they know me in newspaper world and think I deserve this honor.”
“That right there makes all the hard work and hours I put in writing recaps of games and telling the stories of our young athletes worth every minute and so much more.”
McDonald says several of his peers have reached out with congratulatory emails and calls to tell him that they have been following his career with the Times-Record. Reaching out to the local newspaper, via the TR
