Valley City got a three-pointer from Bryson Heck 30 seconds into the game and never looked back on the way to a 59-44 win over Wahpeton in boys basketball at the Wahpeton gym.

Treyton Mauch scored on a turn-around jumper in the lane a minute later making it 3-2 Valley City, but the Huskies never tied the game nor did they take the lead at anytime.

Valley City’s Jack Dieterle and Wahpeton’s Cooper Klosterman had a duel the first two and-a-half minutes of the second quarter. Dieterle came off the bench to score the Hi-Liners first six points of the quarter while Klosterman scored five in a row for the Huskies.

Heck added two more three-pointers later in the quarter and Carson Eggert nailed a three-pointer as time expired in the quarter giving Valley City a 36-22 lead at halftime. That was the biggest lead of the game for the Hi-Liners until late in game.

Wahpeton would get the lead back to within eight points with an 8-4 run to start the fourth quarter.

Carson Eggert scored first in the final eight minutes with a steal and a dunk 20 seconds into the quarter give Valley City its 14 point lead back at 46-32. But Wahpeton would go on a 8-2 run, capped by a floater in the lane by Joseph Gomez to cut the lead down to 48-40 with 4:58 left in the fourth quarter.

Valley City would have one more field goal the rest of the game. But they made eight of ten free throws in the final four minutes of the quarter to put the game away and pickup their second win in a row.

Bryson Heck led the way for Valley City with 15 points and four three-pointers. He also had four rebounds and a couple of assists. Carson Eggert and Zach Sykora scored 13 points each. Eggert had eight rebounds and Sykora had six. Carver Pederson scored seven points and added ten rebounds. Jack Dieterle had six points and six boards.
