Hi-Liner Wrestling hold strong at Strohaug
The Valley City boys and girls wrestling teams competed at the Storhaug Wrestling Tournament in Lisbon and came away with twelve placers out of the 19 wrestlers that competed.
For the boys, Valley City had 15 wrestlers with eight placing.
At 107, Chase Coghlan was 2-2 with one pin and did not place.
At 133, top ranked Koltyn Grebel was 4-0 with two pins and two tech falls to come away with the championship. He defeated the third ranked wrestler at 133 in Class B, Ryan Enge of Lisbon by tech fall, 18-2, in the final. Grebel picked up a reversal with 1:33 to go in the third period the was awarded two near fall points 20 seconds later to get the tech fall. Grebel was also named Outstanding Wrestler in the 133-152 weight classes. At 139, Hunter Undem was 2-2 with two pins but did not place. Also at 139, Quincy Corbin was 0-2 and did not place. At 145, Khruz Kappenman was 0-2 and did not place. Also at 145, Jayden Suhr was 3-3 with two pins and placed sixth. He lost 3-0 to Jordan Dick of Lisbon in the fifth place match. At 152, Jack Lerud was 1-2 with one pin but did not place. Also at 152, Tyson Klabo was 2-2 with one pin and
placed eighth. He lost to Riley Lacina of Lisbon in the seventh place match.
At 160, Cadar Jewett was 0-2 and did not place. At 172, Leighton Hendrickson was 1-3 with one pin and placed eighth. He lost to Benton Kaercher of Pembina County North by fall in 1:13 in the seventh place match. Also at 172, second ranked Ethan Miller was 3-1 with two pins and placed second. He lost to the top ran ked 172 pounder in Class B, Mike Nelson of Lisbon, 5-2 in the final. At 189, Andon Bulow was 2-3 with one pin and placed eighth. He lost to Carter Ptacek of Oakes by fall at :41 in the seventh place match. He lost to Ptacek earlier in the tournament in the opening round. At 215, Dylan Hunt was 3-2 with three
pins and took fifth. He pinned eighth ranked Kirby Freeman of Carrington in 47 seconds in the fifth place match. Also at 215, Auston Jewett was 1-2 with a pin but did not place. AT 285, Owen Hunt was 1-3 and took sixth. He lost to Alexander Schmidtz of Bismarck St. Mary’s by fall in 2:31 in the fifth place match.
As a team, the boys were ninth out of 16 teams with 105.0 points.
For the girls, Valley City had four wrestlers and they all placed.
At 112, seventh ranked Victoria Sanchez was 3-2 with two pins and placed fourth. She lost to Dannika Bennett of Pembina County North by fall in 21 seconds in the third place match
At 118, eighth ranked Hailey Ford was 2-2 with
one pin and placed fifth. She defeated Melody Kubat of Linton 5-2 in the fifth place match.
At 124, sixth ranked Deegan Kirschenmann was 4-2 with four pins and placed fourth. She lost to seventh ranked Jazmyn Ybarra of Carrington 3-0 in the third place match.
At 190, sixth ranked Brooke Bundy was 3-1 with three pins and took second place. She lost
to third ranked Koiline Govergo of Fargo by fall in 1:09 in the finals.
The girls placed eighth with 74.0 points out of 19 teams.
