*Barnes County Veterans Service Office Veterans Coffee Hour welcomes BC Veterans to a meet and greet with other area veterans every third Wednesday of the month from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Office is located at 575 10th St SW, Suite #7, Valley City (same building as Sheriff’s Office). Refreshmen­ts and treats will be provided.

• Jefferson Kindergart­en classes presents “A Barnyard Musical” Thursday, May 9, 2 & 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at Jefferson Elementary. The events are free and welcome the public.

• VCHS Music Department presents Music From Around The World Band Concert on May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Hi-Liner Activity Center (HAC). Musical moments featuring pieces from Greece, Argentina, Japan and more. Ending musical travels back in Valley City, ND, with the premier of “Prayer of Healing” by local composer Paul Cravens. “Prayer for Healing” was commission­ed especially for the VCHS Bands by Rebecca Elliot and the VCHS Music Boosters.

• Disabled American Veterans meeting will be held on Thursday, May 9th, 7 p.m. at the Valley City Eagles Club.

• May 11th the Valley City Monthly Bluegrass Jam Sessions will move to Jamestown to coincide with the ND Bluegrass Associatio­n’s annual gathering at the Gladstone Inn,111 2nd St. NE, Jamestown, ND. Jamming schedule, 11 a.m.-12 noon, for beginners and 1-5 p.m. for the regular jam. There is a banquet supper at Shady’s Restaurant, inside Gladstone Inn, with our annual meeting and election of officers to follow. • Valley City Transfer Station, 11476 35th St. SE, Valley City will be accepting your unwanted TVs, electronic­s, television­s, computers, and printers the week of May 13-17 for $.75/lb. (cash only). The Transfer Station is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be reached for questions by calling 701845-0314.

• City of Valley City will hold Clean Up Week 2024 May 13-17 with your weekly regular garbage pick-up days. Items MUST be sorted in separate piles and keep 3ft away from garbage container, out by 7 a.m. of your scheduled pickup day. Each bagged or boxed items must weigh 50lbs or less. Please group these materials as follows: Pile #1 - Furniture, general household items, toys, home decor, dishes, clothes, rugs, plastics and plastic shelving. Pile #2 - Minimal constructi­on material, sheetrock, all wooden furniture, carpet over 3 ft. Long, windows. Items that will not be picked up: TVs, shingles, Asbestos materials, chemicals, metal, tires. Items that must be brought to Transfer station (we will not pick-up): Tires for a disposal fee, cash only; grass; branches (3in diameter or less), leaves. Items that must be taken to recycling center at 11481 35th Ave SE: Batteries - 115 12th Ave SE, metal shelving, scrap metal – hot water heaters, appliances (NOT TVs), lawn mower. May 14-16

• Buffalo Spring Clean Up Week will be held May 14-16. Large roll off dumpsters will be located on south side of Main Street south of Buffalo Food Market. Guidelines: Acceptable items: Bulky household items, scrap wood, boxes, furniture. Non-Acceptable Items: Electronic­s- TVs, computers, monitors and printers or household hazardous waste (HHW), liquids of any type, appliances, electronic­s, tires.
