Studios Are Sitting on Possibly Lucrative Lots

- PAT SAPERSTEIN

The Hollywood studio landscape is rapidly changing, which could lead conglomerates to start assessing whether they want to hold on to pricey urban real estate, according to a recent report on website The Information. CBS is exploring a sale of its 25-acre site adjacent to The Grove. Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox said it has no plans to sell its studio lot after it is acquired by Disney, but unloading part of the massive West L.A. lot, valued at $1.5 billion, could prove too tempting in the future. Paramount, which has been trimming its production pace lately, has another prime development opportunity with its lot, with office and residential construction flourishing in the vicinity of the 56-acre property. Sony’s Culver City lot is a bit smaller at 45 acres, but both are valued in the $1 billion area.
