Atlanta FX

Donald Glover’s auteur half-hour claimed the Golden Globe in 2017 and scored an Emmy nom for its first season, too. It reinvented itself in its second year with compelling, character- driven standalone episodes.

Black- ish ABC

A two-time nominee, Kenya Barris’ family comedy should get a hat trick after a season that struck just the right balance between politics and humor.

GLOW NETFLIX

This is the first chance for Emmy voters to celebrate the female ensemble series, which has already proven its cred with a Golden Globes nod for leading lady Alison Brie.

Modern Family ABC

The field has gotten ever more competitive, but this broadcast family comedy has been a staple on the ballot since 2010, last bringing home the gold four years ago.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt NETFLIX

The streaming series boasts an Emmy nomination streak (three for three!) and this season’s topical take on #Metoo will make it hard to ignore again.

Barry HBO

This half-hour centers on an anti-hero (an assassin!), but Bill Hader and Alec Berg’s deft touch delivered plenty of heart to the tale of a killer who just wants to act.

Curb Your Enthusiasm HBO

Given the seven noms the show earned in its first run, it’s likely the Academy will welcome back Larry David’s satirical take on Hollywood with another.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

AMAZON

Winning the Golden Globe for comedy series earlier this year makes this streamer a frontrunner among the other freshmen hoping to break into the race this year.

Silicon Valley HBO

Pied Piper, the company whose travails the series recounts, has had its own ups and downs, but the show itself has been an Emmy favorite, nommed each season.

Will & Grace NBC

An Emmy favorite during its first run (with six noms), the rebooted sitcom scored record ratings and won over critics with its funny but sentimental slant.
