“Green Book”

Sight unseen, Farrelly’s “Green Book” seemed to promise the sort of catnip that the Academy has long been almost helpless to resist. Once in release, the film took a bit of a turn, with a slower-than- expected start and various controversies taking a bit of a toll. The film’s numerous admirers do not appear to be deterred, however, and buoyed by an audience award from Toronto and a “best film” designation from the National Board of Review, Farelly has racked up best director nominations from the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards.
