Adam Mckay
“Vice”
Finding a place on several film critics' best- of lists, as well as a few worst- of lists, Mckay’s seriocomic portrait of Dick Cheney was one of the most divisive films of the year. Normally, that sort of split- decision could trouble a director’s chances come Oscar night, but “Vice” is a different type of animal. Mckay was a surprise Academy nominee with his last film, “The Big Short,” and the film has strong champions, with best director nominations from the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and the Golden Globes, as well as an award from the Detroit Film Critics Assn.
