Bevhills Subway Station Gets Strict Oversight
The city of Beverly Hills continues to monitor the coming Westside extension of the Metro Purple Line with caution, after successfully blocking subways in the city for decades. The station at Wilshire and Canon will have 24-hour security and, possibly, bomb-sniffing dogs. It will also be one of the few in the Metro network with public restrooms. The project is required to provide protections for Beverly Hills High School, which previously sued to prevent tunneling under the school. Precautions will include air filters and limits on construction noise during school hours as well as magnetic sensing to find any abandoned oil wells. A Metro spokesperson said the security won’t be any more rigorous than at other stations. No matter; the city’s devotion to scrutinizing public transit users shows no sign of abating.
