Restaurants are struggling during the pandemic, and it’s a sad fact that many won’t be able to reopen even when quarantine restrictions are relaxed. Some spots are staying afloat by also offering food, wine and groceries. But loyal diners can also show support by buying branded merchandise featuring original art and familiar signs.
Ad agency R/GA has launched Merch Aid (getmerchaid.com), which pairs talented graphic designers with favorite New York spots like Sugarhill disco, Economy Candy, Jing Fong and Nitehawk Cinema, with proceeds from the T-shirts and prints going directly to help the businesses. Merch Aid is coming soon to Los Angeles and Austin. In the meantime, Angelenos can order straight from an establishment or through Locali-tee (locali-tee.com), launched by former movie foreign sales exec Eric Christenson to create T-shirt designs for Westside staples like Tito’s Tacos, Bob’s Market, Chez Jay and Bay Cities Italian Deli. Support East Hollywood’s Sqirl by ordering jams, granola, shirts and totes available at sqirlla.com.
