Indywood Scores Sales for ‘Kamasutra’

Indian sales outfit Indywood Distributi­on Network has sold Rupesh Paul’s “Kamasutra — The Revenge” wide ahead of Hong Kong’s film rights market Filmart.

Starring Sherlyn Chopra, Milind Gunaji and Gajendra Chauhan, and produced by San2creati­ons, the film follows two princesses — one who is robbed of her dreams when forced to accept a middle-aged king as her husband, and another thirsty for revenge.

Indywood has sold the film to Twin (Japan, all rights), A2 Filmes (Latin America TV/ VOD), Filmbridge (Mongolia, all rights), Pioneer Film (Philippine­s, all rights) and RFT Films (U.k./ireland, theatrical).

The company has an extensive Filmart slate that also includes Sri Lankan auteur Prasanna Vithanage’s “Paradise,” winner of the Kim Jiseok award at Busan 2023 and nominated in four categories at the Asian Film Awards. Produced by Newton Cinema and starring Roshan Mathew, Darshana Rajendran and Shyam Fernando, the film follows an Indian couple who arrive in the hill country of crisis-ridden Sri Lanka to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversar­y. When things take an unexpected turn, conflicts deepen, revealing cracks in their relationsh­ip.

Also from Newton Cinema is Don Palathara’s Rotterdam 2023 title “Family,” with Vinay Forrt, Nilja K. Baby and Divya Prabha.

Blessy’s “The Goat Life” follows the real-life incident of an Indian migrant worker, Najeeb Muhammad, who goes to Saudi Arabia to earn money. However, he finds himself living a slave-like existence, herding goats in the middle of the desert. Alta Global Media, Image Makers and Jet Media Prods. produced, with a cast led by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jimmy Jean-louis and Amala Paul. The score is by Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman.

Rounding out the slate are Siddharth Chauhan’s “Amar Colony,” which won the special jury award at Tallinn Black Nights 2022; Jude Anthany Joseph’s “2018,” India’s entry to the 2024 Oscars’ internatio­nal feature category; Kiranraj K’s 2022 box office hit “777 Charlie”; Devan’s “Valatty,” the love story of two dogs; andbabitha Mathew and Rinn’s “Pyali,” the story of two young siblings produced by NF Varghese Pictures.
