The First ‘Frozen’ Land Welcomes Visitors

- BY KATHY A. MCDONALD

Visitors to Hong Kong Disneyland can enter the world of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ blockbusters “Frozen” and “Frozen 2” at the park’s World of Frozen, the world’s first themed land centered on the films. Opened in November 2023, the land features mythical Arendelle’s topography and celebrates Summer Snow Day, the day “Frozen’s” princess Anna saved her sister Elsa and their kingdom. The multiple attractions, Nordic-influenced cuisine, merchandise and costumes all build from the beloved musicals’ story and characters.

Disney Imagineers worked for more than seven years to translate the hit movies from the screen to theme park. The films’ key background settings are now fully realized, from the Village Square and Clock Tower to the North Mountain to the royal family’s Norwegian dragon-style castle. Attractions encapsulate the sisters’ adventures: Frozen Ever After showcases sophisticated animatronic characters through an indoor ride to the Ice Palace, and Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs is a family-friendly outdoor roller coaster that zooms through the films’ fictional landscapes.

Music is integral to the visitor experience: the hit tunes from both films are heard throughout and wandering minstrels the crowds. Visitors recommend reserving tickets via the park’s mobile app to the immersive theatrical “Playhouse in the Woods.” The show’s live performances allow guests to interact with the film’s star characters and pop culture phenoms, sisters Anna and Elsa.

The look of the movie owes much to Norwegian culture and the World of Frozen’s themed cuisine is a hat-tip to Nordic staples. At the Golden Crocus Inn, guests can select from a hearty mushroom pasta to seafood combinations; of course, there’s a children’s menu too. Northern Delights is the land’s sweet shop where mini-olaf snowmen are used to decorate softserve ice cream sundaes and crispy, blue-hued, snowflake churros fuel parkgoers.

Priority access passes to attractions are also available through the park’s app. Tour the land with a professional personal photographer — a park visit add-on that includes the digital photos.

More than 100 million guests have visited Hong Kong Disneyland since its opening 19 years ago. For more information, visit hongkong disneyland.com.
