“RED IS OFTEN ESCHEWED in places of repose,” says Alexa Hampton, who set out to “show how red is done in a bedroom.” Integral to this was an outsize journey to the City of Light, with a trompe l’oeil wallcovering of her own design masking as framed maps of Paris. “It serves as a tonic for the rich reds in the tea paper,” adds Hampton, noting the inherent rigor in its grid, a counterpoint to the room’s sumptuousness. Below, how two of her fellow designers similarly turned dreamy destinations into main characters in their tableaus.
