EARTHEN INTRIGUE

Lane plays with both form and color—from lava black and creamy jade to Parian white—for greater visual depth; for example, an oak credenza by Chapter & Verse features inset ceramic tiles in watery glazed turquoise (below), while a white and bronze finish on a Southern California sculpture accentuates its striking dimension (top right). Before getting on hands and knees to craft each piece, the artist’s creative process begins with a sketch in his 10,000-square-foot Brooklyn studio (bottom right).
