A Chickamauga man was arrested on numerous charges following a DUI accident on Hurt Street on Aug 11. According to Walker County Sheriff’s Office reports: William Anthony Jackson, 32, of Liberty Drive in Chickamauga faces seven traffic violations after a collision occurred at 10:11 p.m. Jackson faces the following misdemeanor charges: driving under the influence, obstruction of an officer, endangering the life of a child while committing a crime, no insurance, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to notify owner upon striking fixed object, failure to maintain lane. Jackson drove off the road into a yard after hitting two mailboxes, according to witnesses. He also allegedly tried to take the license plate off of the vehicle. Jackson had a 13year-old in the vehicle at the time of the accident. As police were arriving, a neighbor pointed toward the pair, identifying the two people in the red 2004 Honda Civic, which Jackson owned. Deputy Mathis approached them and ordered them to stop. The juvenile did, but Jackson continued to walk after being told twice; he then turned and said “no” to the officer. Mathis pulled out his taser and Jackson finally complied. He denied driving the vehicle, despite Mathis locating keys that matched the vehicle in Jackson’s right front pocket. Jackson was escorted to the patrol car and stated he had too many drinks when asked how much he had drunk. He then became aggressive and started yelling and cursing at the officer with slurred speech. Mathis had to force him into the vehicle, and Jackson started kicking at the officer. “Is that all you got (racial slur), I’ve dealt with more before.” Jackson said to the officer. His legs were then shackled by another officer as he continue to yell and curse. Four officers carried him to Sgt. Robert Webber’s vehicle to be taken to jail. Jackson continued to fight and was tased on his back by Webber. A field sobriety test was not possible due to the altercation. The teen stated that Jackson had picked him up and began “drinking heavily” at Jackson’s mother’s house. The two left, with Jackson driving at speeds up to 100 mph at times, according to the juvenile. The teen said Jackson was driving reckless and would pull the emergency brake while going down the road, along with doing donuts. Jackson also allegedly tried to drive off in the vehicle after driving off the road, but the car was too damaged. Upon arrival at the Walker County jail, a breathalyzer test was conducted and Jackson blew a 0.168 and 0.153 blood alcohol level, nearly twice the legal limit.
