Sylvia Gloer Lafayette
Sylvia Gloer of LaFayette died Friday, August 17, 2012, from complications of cancer, diabetes, kidney and liver disease. She was loved by everyone especially by her many friends, children and her husband of 55 years, Alton. She was born to the late Thomas and Parris Farmer in Trion, was of the Christian faith and she and her husband were foster parents to 38 children. Survivors include her husband, Alton H. Gloer; children, Adam Gloer, Parris Gloer, Celeste Parker, Dennis Gardenhire, Shelia Scott, Perry Griggs and his wife, Jeannie, David Garcia and Daniel Wayne Elrod; brothers; Leon, Walter and Doug Farmer; grandchildren, Sharie Hames and her husband, Chris Hames, and Marine Jeremy Stephens and his wife, Cortney. Memorial service: August 19, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Visitation: August 19, at 1 p.m., prior to the service. Arrangements: Wilson Funeral Homes – LaFayette Chapel. 1946, in New York City, N.Y., and she was of the Baptist faith. Her family was her world, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur and David Smithson. Survivors include her loving husband, William Joseph “Bill” O’Toole; children, William Patrick (Bonnie) O’Toole, Debra Ann O’Toole, Michael John (Brittany) O’Toole; brothers, William Smithson and John Bayduss; sister, Andrea Bayduss; six grandchildren, Alayna Brooke O’Toole, Kevin Charles O’Toole, Meghan Marie O’Toole, Katelyn Rose O’Toole, Garron Taylor O’Toole and Madison Grace O’Toole. Services will be private. Survivors include her children, Wanda (Robert) Freeman of Ringgold, Jerry Vineyard of Chattanooga, and Mildred (Joe) DiGivonno of Redwood Valley, Calif.; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services: Wednesday, August 22, at 11 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Visitation: Tuesday, August 21, from 5-9 p.m. and Wednesday until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
