LMS second at Ringgold tournament
The LaFayette Middle School Lady Ramblers began the 2012 softball season this past Tuesday with a 2-0 loss at Gordon Lee. Pitcher Lindsey Shepherd went the distance for LaFayette, allowing just one earned run in her first start of the season. Madison Harris and Shayla Ludy had the lone hits for LaFayette, who will host the rematch on Sept. 6. On Thursday, the Lady Ramblers collected nine hits, four going for extra bases, but it wasn’t enough to get a win in the non-NGAC game. Sydney Adkins went 3-for-3 for the Lady Ramblers with a pair of doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Ludy was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Raleigh Lewis, Hayleigh Goff, McKenzie Hogue, Kiki Evans, and Harris added one hit each. Allison Wallin struck out two Calhoun hitters in a complete-game performance. The Lady Ramblers took part in an early-season softball tournament this past weekend at the Jack Mattox Complex and returned home with the runner-up trophy. LaFayette opened the tournament on Friday with a 5-2 win over Chattanooga Valley. Harris was 2-for-2 with two RBIs in the victory. The Lady Ramblers moved into the winners’ bracket final with a 2-0 shutout of Heritage on Saturday morning. Katie Cain had a big game for LaFayette, striking out four hitters to get the win in the circle while helping herself with a triple at the plate. She also scored both of the Lady Ramblers’ runs. In the winners’ bracket final, LaFayette fell to Calhoun by a 6-0 count. Adkins and Hogue each went 2-for-3 in the loss. LaFayette bounced back in the elimination rounds with a 3-1 win over Heritage, getting a 2-for-3 hitting performance from Ludy. The second win over Heritage put LaFayette in the championship against Calhoun, and the Lady Ramblers scored four runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit to grab a quick 4-0 lead. But the powerful Lady Jackets would answer with six runs in the second inning, then tacked on three more later in the game to win the title with a 9-4 victory. Ludy, Hogue and Harris paced the offense for the Lady Ramblers (3-4 overall) with two hits each.
